2024 Holiday Ornament “The Otter”

It might seem a little early to think about Christmas, especially with Thanksgiving still ahead, but it’ll be here before we know it! Every year, I create a limited-edition ornament inspired by an animal, and this year, it’s the otter. Specifically, it’s a river otter that you might find in our area—one that I’ve had the pleasure of encountering this year while spending early mornings fishing at the reservoir.

In August and September, I spent many quiet, peaceful mornings on the water. One morning, while casting my line, I heard a rustling behind me. I turned slowly and was surprised to find an otter staring at me from just five feet away. He and his companion played in the water for nearly an hour while I fished, splashing and tumbling in the calm morning light.

For me, the otter has come to symbolize work-life balance. It’s a tireless worker, but it also has this remarkable sense of joy and playfulness. Always moving with energy, but never losing its positive spirit. It’s a reminder to find the balance in our own lives—work hard, but remember to take time to enjoy the little moments. Be more like an otter in 2025!

Each ornament is lovingly crafted from either mahogany or cherry hardwood. 

As with every other year, only 24 will be made. (to match the year)
